Integration with the context and landscape, modularity and flexibility, clear paths
The project is designed to ensure maximum flexibility and adaptability over time, essential characteristics for a building dedicated to scientific research and healthcare services. The spaces are organized rationally and efficiently, with separate routes for staff, materials, and visitors to ensure hygiene, safety, and privacy.
The building is based on a modular configuration, composed of repeatable and integrable units that allow for both horizontal and vertical expansion. The division into three distinct blocks reduces the visual impact of the single-unit complex while maintaining functional continuity. The vertical constraints (staircases and light wells) are located between the blocks and clad in Corten steel, becoming distinctive architectural elements.
A large, triple-volume atrium with natural light marks the entrance and serves as a focal point, housing the staircase and main elevators. Visitors access controlled walkways, while staff have dedicated internal routes, including those for heavy supplies and tools.
The new spatial layout optimizes functionality, creating relaxation and meeting areas overlooking the exterior and the atrium.
The division into two main blocks increases the window area by 50%, improving natural lighting. The modular structure (7x7 meters) allows for maximum flexibility of use, with spaces up to 500 m2 free from constraints. Finally, the ground floor layout maintains the of vivarium and biological bank's location, but moves the multipurpose room next to the lobby, freeing up 400 m2 of space for future expansion or healthcare emergencies.
