Primary front of a curvilinear shape
The Insurance Company N. 4 Chiavari (GE) commissioned a program of improvements for the hospital of Lavagna the construction of a new building on a neighboring designated expansion area, as well as some expansion and renovation on the existing complex (extension of the Radiology and Diagnostics department on the ground floor; partial renovations of other areas)
The principal intervention is a building developed on three useful floors characterized by the primary front of a curvilinear shape, built in adherence to the existing Services Building which houses laboratories and ambulatories, connected to the first and second floors, and functionally connected to the South body of the existing hospital on the first and second floors through the construction of a new specific connection structure. Therefore the new building not only becomes an integral part of the existing hospital structure, but also takes on an important function of mending and integrating the existing services building, until now connected to the rest only with the walkway on the second floor.
The building, originally intended to house CUP and freelancers, was then dedicated to the S.P.D.C (Psychiatric Diagnosis and Treatment Service) with wards, ambulatories and services and includes a large garden for the exclusive use of the ground floor department which overlooks the work rooms and relational spaces such as the dining room and the living room. The second floor hosts additional support functions related to the Department of Mental Health and Addictions.
