The hospital system which appears to be the aggregation of units with homogeneous technological complexity

The competition concerned the design of a general hospital model for 150 beds, expandable to 300, to be built in four different cities in Oman.

The campus will also include parking, housing and community spaces for medical and hospital staff.

The requests of the tender concerned two fundamental requirements, namely, the flexibility of the spaces and the prefabrication of the building systems. On these assumptions, the proposed Model is based on an innovative concept that conceives the hospital as a 'kit of parts' which aims to optimize construction and management costs. The hospital complex therefore proposes the functional and constructive separation of the spaces that make up the hospital system which appears to be the aggregation of units with homogeneous technological complexity. With this logic, 4 areas have been identified, namely Hospitality, High-Touch, High-Care, and High Touch-High Care, which correspond to the areas of reception, hospitalization, treatment, and services. The Model allows many advantages, including: autonomous construction sites of the different building 'parts' and correct identity of the environments according to the humanization required.
