Two shells, with different material and semantic logics
The intervention is characterized by the solution of suspending the new building on the existing one as a "bridge", adopting a construction system that does not interfere with the existing structure and which consists of a portal composed of four pillars founded outside the building on which two full-height trusses that function as the "backbone" of the load-bearing structural cage. The new PARESA is therefore transformed into a sophisticated "skeleton - skin" building. The vertical and horizontal structural components are made of steel, while the casing is a double skin of glass and steel: on the external fronts, the glass is shielded by corten steel slats; on the internal ones, stainless steel mesh. Two shells, with different material and semantic logics: on the outside, corten steel suggest the strength of a protective "armor"; inside, the stainless steel mesh expresses the technological appropriateness of a material that constitutes an ideal filigree for shading without precluding visual contact with the courtyard and its rich natural vegetation. Two material treatments that characterize the different identities of the fronts and resolve, with a single and coherent gesture, the construction and morphological specificities of the façades.
