A network of integrated pavilions connected by a concentric system aimed at two physically distinct sectors

In 2000, the implementation phase of the planning of the "New Careggi" began, with which it was intended to reconstruct the urban unity of the hospital complex and allow the growth of the regional health system: ambitious objectives which envisage the demolition of approximately 60% of the existing volume and the reconstruction of a new network of integrated pavilions that redevelop the environment while respecting the delicate landscape context. The idea of a hospital is in itself innovative: no longer pavilions or monoblocks, but a network of integrated pavilions connected by a concentric system aimed at two physically distinct sectors: the first for activities linked to emergencies, intensive care and the entire acute phase, a second for rehabilitation care and long-term care.
